Start here / RTCU development

Your first
RTCU application.

Follow the Quick Start Guide and Tutorial, test an application on your PC, then transfer it to a device.

01 / Follow the guides

Install. Simulate.
Connect. Transfer.

  • Quick Start Guide

Prepare the PC, install RTCU M2M Studio and connect the development hardware.

    Install M2M Studio

Follow the Quick Start Guide, install the development environment and open it on your Windows PC.

  2. 02 / First application

    Create, build and simulate

Follow the Tutorial project, build the VPL application and run it in the built-in RTCU Simulator. You can begin this step without a physical device.

Run the Tutorial in the Simulator
  3. 03 / First application

    Connect the target device

Use its technical manual to prepare power and the correct programming connection. Install the USB driver if that connection requires it, then confirm the device connection in M2M Studio.

    Transfer your first application

Use Synchronize to transfer the Tutorial project to the connected device, then verify its behavior on the real hardware. Add the SIM and antenna setup if testing the cellular example.

Develop locally.

PC simulation can begin with M2M Studio and the Tutorial. For a local transfer and testing on hardware, add the device and its installation essentials.

Choose your hardware

For the PC and connected device

  • A Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC meeting the Quick Start Guide requirements, with RTCU M2M Studio installed.
  • The RTCU device for your application, powered and connected according to its own technical manual.
  • The programming or service cable specified for that model. Install the RTCU USB Programming Port driver when using a USB programming connection.
  • Antennas and connections needed by the application. A valid SIM card is required when using cellular connectivity.
03 / Add when needed

Operate remotely.

Remote infrastructure extends the local workflow. It is not required for a local programming-cable transfer.

Connectivity and remote services

  • A network connection supported by the selected device, with the appropriate service, SIM and antennas where required.
  • RTCU Communication Hub infrastructure for remote device communication from M2M Studio or a backend system.
  • RTCU Deployment Server when you need managed remote updates of firmware, applications and configuration through the Communication Hub.

Investigate application behavior

The built-in Simulator tests logic on the PC. RTCU IEX adds investigation of applications on physical NX32L devices. The classic Emulator is for X32 and NX32 systems and does not support NX32L.
