Field communication

RTCU Communication Hub

A communication backbone between RTCU devices in the field and your application infrastructure.

Route device and service traffic

The Communication Hub carries application data between field devices and backend systems. It also provides the communication path used by the RTCU Deployment Server and development tools.

  • TCP/IP connections for devices behind NAT or with dynamic IP addressing.
  • TLS socket communication with X.509 certificate management.
  • Automatic data compression, fallback and recovery.
  • Integrated device time service.

Operate and monitor the service

The Windows service starts without user log-on and is managed using the Monitor client utility. Run up to 32 separately configurable, isolated Hub instances.

  • Password-protected remote access.
  • Logging, log filtering and graphical diagnostics.
  • A plug-in architecture for backend integration and extended functionality.

Build the backend connection

The Plug-in Developers Kit supports extensions such as connection authorization, connection/disconnection events and node mapping. The demonstration package includes an RTCU application, a Visual Studio C/C++ backend application and the VSMSGW.DLL communication library.

A separate RACP2 protocol reference implementation is published as standard C in a buildable Visual Studio 2019 C/C++ project. The protocol documentation and reference implementation are password-protected ZIP packages; request their unzip passwords from Logic IO support using the instructions in Downloads.

  • Plug-in Developers Kit and its manual.
  • Communication Hub demonstration package and documentation.
  • Communication Protocol Documentation Set and RACP2 reference implementation.
